YouTube Launches Cheaper YouTube Premium Subscription under Students Plan in India
Google-owned, the world’s biggest video streaming and video sharing platform YouTube officially launched YouTube Music and YouTube Premium in India two months ago. YouTube Music is a music streaming service and mobile app. YouTube Music allows users to browse through songs and music videos based on genres, playlists, and recommendations.
YouTube Premium is a paid streaming service. It provides you an ad-free streaming experience of YouTube. It also offers you access to the exclusive original content produced in collaboration with the site’s creators, as well as offline playback and playback of videos on a smartphone. Earlier this service was known as YouTube Red. It only offered ad-free access to all the YouTube videos. But later YouTube rebranded this service as YouTube Premium on May 17, 2018.
YouTube is surely making efforts to compete with paid music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Jio Saavan, Gaana, and many others. YouTube Music had announced that within a week of its launch in India it had hit three million downloads. YouTube is now looking to drag more subscribers to both of its services. So, it has come up with the “Student Plans” for the college-going students. Keeping the college and student factor in mind, Youtube has kept the price of the Student Plan are very affordable. The rate of subscriptions is such that a normal student can afford to subscribe to it.
The Student Plan for YouTube Music gives you 40 percent off from the standard monthly subscription fee. The discount percentage of YouTube Premium Subscription is almost similar to that of YouTube Music. The standard charges for YouTube Music in India have been priced at Rs. 99 per month. The subscription gives you the advantages of ad-free experience, background playback, and local download. The Student Plan for YouTube Music gives you all these benefits at a discounted rate of Rs. 59 per month.
On the other hand, the standard charges for YouTube Premium Subscription in India have been priced at Rs. 129 per month. But under the Students Plan, the Premium Subscription is available at a very affordable rate of Rs. 79 per month. In this subscribers get benefits of ad-free experience, background playback, and local download along with access to the exclusive original content produced in collaboration with the site’s creators.
The subscription to Students Plan for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium will be available to only full-time students. The students need to be enrolled in accredited colleges and universities across the country. To subscribe to Student Plan, users will have to provide the necessary academic details whose eligibility will be determined by SheerID. The students will be able to subscribe for up to four years.
Google says the users who already have a YouTube Music or YouTube Premium subscription and they wish to switch to the new Students Plan, they will first have to cancel the existing subscription. After canceling the existing subscription, then only they will be allowed to get the benefits of Students Plan that are now available to the eligible users in India.
