Whatsapp’s New Picture in Picture Feature Allows You to Play Videos in Background
The most popular messaging app, Whatsapp has brought a new feature for its Android users. The Android version of the application has received an update where users are allowed to play videos in the background because of the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature. The iOS users are allowed to play back videos while switching between conversations, while Android users were missing this feature. However, the new update has brought the iOS feature in Android and additionally, the new background playback functionality has been added which is not available on iOS.

The new feature is in the testing process and it is just the part of the WhatsApp beta programme. The first time Picture-in-Picture feature came was in December last year for the Android users. The users were allowed to playback a video on the pop-up floating window only in individual chat and group threads. But if the user moves out of the chat, the video stops playing.
An update to this feature was brought to Whatsapp for the iOS users in January this year. The users were allowed to continue watching a video in a pop-up format even while switching different chats. And now again bring a change to the PiP feature, the Android users of Whatsapp will be allowed to play video from Whatsapp even outside the app. The new feature will allow viewing videos in the background from different platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
The feature is currently under the trial process and the team is making efforts to improve the current PiP feature on Android by letting videos to be played in playback while switching between chats and even when the application runs in the background. Whatsapp is trying to give its users a seamless experience of watching videos while doing other tasks on Whatsapp or outside Whatsapp. WABetaInfo was first to spot and report the new feature update. The new update is a part of the latest WhatsApp beta version update number 2.19.177 for Android smartphones.
The PiP feature already runs in other apps such as Facebook and YouTube and also, in some televisions and smartphones of today. Apart from this feature, there are various other features which are under the testing phase. a host of other brand-new updates like Dark Mode, Vacation Mode, Touch ID and Face Unlock are on the way too. There is also news from The Sun; a UK publication which reports that ads will appear in the WhatsApp Status update section against the wishes of millions of users.
