Facebook-owned messaging and chatting application Whatsapp will stop working on some Android smartphones as well as iPhones from February 1, 2020. The app would no longer support devices using the Android 2.3.7 operating system and iPhones using iOS 7. So if you are still using any of those devices then update your smartphone.

In their updated FAQs, Whatsapp said that users whose devices have those operating systems “can no longer create new accounts, nor reverify existing accounts” after that date. The company claims that it will not have a massive impact on lots of users as it would only affect users who had not purchased a new phone or updated their operating system in more than six years.

Whatsapp will stop working

A few months ago, Whatsapp had announced that the app will stop working in Windows operated smartphones by end of this year. It was shocking news for all the Windows users as Whatsapp has become an integral part of everyone’s life and a day without Whatsapp is also very difficult to imagine.  In one of the past FAQs WhatsApp noted, “you’ll no longer be able to use all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019, and WhatsApp might not be available in the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019.” Now after Windows, its time for Android and iOS users to get updated as the company has announced that it will no longer support devices using Android 2.3.7 operating system and iPhones using iOS 7.

Whatsapp has asked users to use smartphones that run on Android 4.0.3 or later software version so they are not impacted with the stoppage of service. And for the iOS users, the company says that phones running on iOS 8 or later should be used to continue the journey with WhatsApp. In the latest update of Whatsapp FAQs, there is also some news for the JioPhone users. WhatsApp also asks users to use phones running KaiOS 2.5.1+, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2. Reliance Jio and WhatsApp worked together to bring WhatsApp support to JioPhone and JioPhone 2 last year.

Hide Apps in Android

As the competition among the messaging and chatting app has increased, Whatsapp has to bring updates and include more features in the app. Earlier when Whatsapp was alone in the race, it didn’t use to bring quick updates and changes in its app. But after realizing that now there are so many competitors around, it also needs to be updated and keep the users attached to Whatsapp.

Whatsapp has many new cool features lined up that will be very soon included in the app. In the current Whatsapp Beta Programme, there are various features like Picture-in-Picture, Vacation Mode, Touch ID and Face Unlock. It is expected that the company is planning to include all these features in their next Whatsapp update.

So if you want to experience all the new upcoming features but you own a smartphone having Android 2.3.7 operating system or iPhones using iOS 7 then you surely have to change your smartphone or update the operating system of the smartphone. And if you have a Windows phone then you have only one option of switching to either Android smartphones or iPhones.
