PUBG and Fortnite are now Banned in Iraq

By  |

Troubles for the famous battle royale game PUBG is increasing day by day. Many peoples from different parts of the worlds want the game to be banned. And as a result of that, many countries have started to ban PUBG. Recently, Nepal banned the battle royale game. Now, it looks like the government of Iraq has also decided to ban the game.

What are PUBG and Fortnite?

In case you don’t know PUBG or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a game based on battle royale gameplay. In the game, you will be dropped into an island with 99 other people. There you’ll have to search for weapons and other necessary items like medicines, car or bike, etc. You’ll have to fight and survive until no one else is alive to win the game.

The other game which is voted to be banned in Iraq is Fortnite. The game also features a very similar battle royale gameplay just like PUBG. Here as well you’ll be dropped into an island with other peoples. However, in Fortnite you get a lot of special abilities and powers which can win you the game whereas PUBG is more realistic.

Why are these games being banned?

As per the government, these games “threaten the social and moral peace” in Iraq. In November last year, a teenager accidentally killed his friend with a shotgun in Erbil province of Iraq while doing a ‘roleplay’ of  PUBG.  Ms. Ghulab, an MP said,

The Committee on Culture, Information, Tourism and Archaeology views with great concern the spread of the phenomenon of electronic games that is causing violence among children, and young boys and girls.

As per her, the games are “affecting the social, psychological and educational level of everyone” who plays the games. Thus she would be backing the proposal to ban the games.

Reaction from the People of Iraq

The people of Iraq are widely negative about the ban of PUBG and Fortnite. They are more angry about the government’s wrong priorities rather than the reason that won’t be able to play these games.

Iraq’s decision to ban PUBG comes soon after the ban in Nepal. The game was also banned for some time in the Indian cities of Rajkot and Ahmedabad by the police. What are your thoughts about the ban? Let us know in the comments.
