We have seen the adaptation of dark mode throughout 2018. Starting from system-wide dark mode on Android 9 Pie, to Windows 10 and even Mac OS Mojave dark mode is a fan favorite. Even individual apps are receiving updates from their developers to support dark mode. Many apps including YouTube, Facebook Messenger, etc have already received dark mode. Other apps like WhatsApp and Google Maps either have it partially or they are yet to receive the dark mode.

However, there is a way using which you can force dark mode on Google Map’s navigation mode. This can be very helpful to those people who love the dark mode. Those who use Google maps a lot daily and want to save some battery (like for the cab drivers) this tutorial can be helpful for them as well.

For those who don’t know, Google Map already has a night mode. However, it is a bit different. The night mode on Google Maps turns on during the evening or night time automatically. However, during the day it again reverts to the original lighter theme. There are no settings to turn on the night mode manually.

Thus using this tutorial we will be helping out to manually force the dark theme on navigation mode during any time of the day. Here’s how to do it.

How to Force Dark Theme on Navigation Mode?

  1. Open Google Maps: First things first, update Google maps your phone to the latest version and then open it.
  2. Go to Google Maps Settings: Once you have opened the application you’ll need to go to the Settings page of the app. You’ll need to swipe right from the left-hand side of the screen in order to open the menu. Then tap on Settings from that list.
  3. Head over to Navigation Settings: Next you will have to go to Navigation Settings. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen to find the Navigation Settings.
  4. Look for Map Display and Change the Settings: Now you have to again scroll down till you find Map Display. Here you will see three options, Automatic, Day and Night. To force the constant dark theme you will have to choose the Night option.

Now once you have selected the Night option from Map Display, it is done. Regardless of any time of the day you open navigations on the Google Maps, you’ll get the dark mode.
